It all starts when Patrick can't sleep. On the way to his parents' bedroom, he realizes that he's not the only one awake. Whispering, his mother and father talk about the fact that his unborn brother may never learn to speak. Quietly Patrick sneaks back into his room and thinks: How can we learn to speak? And who do you ask for advice if you don't want to admit that you have been listening to your parents? Patrick turns to his best friend, his teachers, a Croatian boxer, the vegetable lady and even a professor. Not only does he learn a lot about himself and his place in the world, but he also gets an idea how he could help his brother.

"Patrick's Trick" convinces with a strong and unusual idea, which is implemented consistently and elegantly: Poetically and philosophically, it tells of the adventure of life and prevents possible fear of contact with handicaps.
